There is one way that most people look for information on the internet, and that is with search engines. Although the most popular search engine, Google, may get the most attention, there are other search engines that do a similarly good job at scouring the web for information about various people and companies. The information that they pick up and decide to put on the first page can have a huge impact on what people think of your company.

One of the most important parts of online reputation management is monitoring these search results and making sure that articles which hurt your reputation are not making their way to the top of the search results. If you can fill the first couple pages of search results with articles that portray your company in a positive light it will go a long way towards boosting your online reputation. Very few people ever bother to go past the first couple pages, and a few negative reviews on page five will do little damage to your company.

The problem with negative online reviews is that it can be hard to tell exactly how much damage they are doing to your company. Nobody will take a look at a negative review and send you an email letting you know that they decided to use a different company because of that review. Part of reputation management is ensuring that these negative reviews do not prevent potential customers from using your business.  The importance of search engines in online reputation management is hard to overstate, as they are the portal that people use to find the online businesses that they want to use. If you can create a good online reputation it only serve to help your business as the internet integrates itself even further into our lives.
