Late May is always a good time to visit Cap d’Agde in France, neither too busy nor too hot, and also coincides with a good tourist event, the Sand Sculpture exhibition. Held on Richelongue Beach, one of 10 beaches at Cap d’Agde, artists from around the globe compete to create the most stunning sand sculptures. This year sees the following artists participating.

From Martinique the artist Jean-Pierre Gout

Jean Pierre’s favored sculpting material is clay but he can transfer his skills to the demands of sand and create forceful and enchanting pieces.

From Germany the artist Toni Thoneick

What this artist doesn’t know about sand isn’t worth knowing! His incredible work shows off his high level of expertise with sand and you will be amazed by the height of his sculptures. His style incorporates geometric shapes creating a futuristic fantasy world filled with mystery.

From France the artist Gérard Pellini

Back in his art studio Gérard sculpts with marble and other stone materials. Sand sculpture for him is a hobby. With it he creates mad shapes with high levels of detail that show off his very high skill levels.

From France the artist Alain Durant

There is no doubt that sand is the sculpting material that Alain is most comfortable with and he uses it to create his futuristic landscape. His art is full of depth and sensuality. His beautiful and original works have a sense of humour about them and are always made with natural materials.

From Togo the artist Bob Atisso

This artist is something of a perfectionist when it comes to sculpting with sand. Inspired by the workings of daily life he creates works of great intimacy.

From France the artist Benedict Duthérage

His sculpting of sand is a joy to watch and his sculptures are very poetic, sometimes sophisticated and sometimes childish but always lots of fun. He uses many different techniques and chooses lots of different topics to work on.
